Face ID & Touch ID

Protect your health data with biometric authentication. When enabled, GLPea requires Face ID or Touch ID every time you open the app.

App Lock Settings

Why Use Biometric Lock?

Protect Sensitive Data

Your medication and health information is private:

  • Prevent others from seeing your data if they use your phone
  • Keep health info confidential from curious eyes
  • Add a layer of security beyond your phone's lock screen

Convenience + Security

Biometrics offer the best of both worlds:

  • Fast - Unlock in under a second
  • Secure - Only your face or fingerprint works
  • No passwords - Nothing to remember or type

Setting Up Biometric Lock

Requirements

  • iPhone with Face ID or Touch ID
  • Biometrics enrolled in iOS Settings
  • GLPea account signed in

Enable App Lock

  1. Open GLPea
  2. Go to SettingsApp Lock
  3. Toggle Require Face ID (or Touch ID) ON
  4. Authenticate to confirm

What Gets Protected

When enabled, biometric lock:

  • Requires authentication when opening the app
  • Requires authentication after the app has been in background
  • Protects all health data in the app

How It Works

When You Open GLPea

  1. Tap the GLPea icon
  2. Face ID or Touch ID prompt appears
  3. Authenticate with your face/fingerprint
  4. App opens to your dashboard

After Background Time

If GLPea was in the background:

  • Under 1 minute: Opens without prompt
  • Over 1 minute: Requires re-authentication

You can adjust this timing in settings.

Settings Options

Lock Timing

Choose how quickly the app locks after going to background:

OptionBehavior
ImmediatelyAlways requires auth
After 1 minuteBrief grace period
After 5 minutesLonger grace period

Passcode Fallback

If biometrics fail:

  • iOS prompts for your device passcode
  • This is your standard iPhone passcode
  • Ensures you can always access your data

Using Face ID

Tips for Reliable Recognition

  • Hold phone at face level
  • Ensure good lighting
  • Don't cover your face
  • Look at the phone

If Face ID Fails

  • Try again from a better angle
  • Use device passcode as backup
  • Check iOS Face ID settings if persistent issues

Face ID with Mask

If you have "Face ID with a Mask" enabled in iOS:

  • Works with glasses
  • Works with face masks
  • Slightly less secure but more convenient

Using Touch ID

Tips for Reliable Recognition

  • Use a clean, dry finger
  • Press firmly on the sensor
  • Ensure your fingerprint is enrolled
  • Add multiple fingers for backup

If Touch ID Fails

  • Wipe finger and sensor
  • Try a different enrolled finger
  • Use device passcode as backup

Troubleshooting

"Biometrics Not Available"

This means Face ID/Touch ID isn't set up on your device:

  1. Go to iPhone SettingsFace ID & Passcode
  2. Set up Face ID or Touch ID
  3. Return to GLPea settings

Authentication Keeps Failing

  1. Check iOS biometric settings
  2. Re-enroll your face/fingerprint if needed
  3. Ensure GLPea has permission to use biometrics

App Opens Without Prompting

  • Check that App Lock is enabled in GLPea settings
  • Verify lock timing setting
  • Force close and reopen the app

Forgot Device Passcode

If you can't access the fallback passcode:

  • This is your iPhone passcode, not a GLPea password
  • Follow Apple's passcode recovery process
  • Your GLPea data syncs with your account, so you won't lose it

Security Notes

Biometrics Are Device-Specific

  • Each device has its own biometric setup
  • Setting up on one device doesn't affect others
  • Enable on each device you use GLPea on

Biometrics vs. Phone Lock

Biometric lock in GLPea is in addition to your phone's lock:

  1. First, unlock your iPhone
  2. Then, authenticate in GLPea

This provides two layers of protection.

If Someone Else Has Access

If you share your device or someone knows your passcode:

  • Biometric lock adds protection specifically for GLPea
  • Only your enrolled biometrics can unlock the app
  • Device passcode is the fallback (consider this when sharing devices)

Disabling Biometric Lock

If you no longer want biometric protection:

  1. Open GLPea
  2. Go to SettingsApp Lock
  3. Authenticate one more time
  4. Toggle Require Face ID OFF

Consider the Risks

Disabling biometric lock means anyone with access to your unlocked phone can open GLPea and see your health data.

Apple Watch Note

The Apple Watch GLPea app uses your Watch's wrist detection and passcode:

  • If you've unlocked your Watch, GLPea opens without additional prompt
  • Your Watch's security protects the Watch app
  • iPhone's biometric lock doesn't affect the Watch app
